The reception area is designed to perform three primary functions; 1) provide brand name presence, 2) serve as waiting area for guests, and 3) serve as the security & door access control point for employees and guests.

An open office concept with power drops from the ceiling was selected for this space. Office furniture and accessories were designed/depicted in CAD, selected, and installed with assistance from a professional office furniture vendor.

During facility design review, a deliberate decision shifted the restrooms further into the office space and allowed this hallway to be large enough to contain freezers on either side of the hallway while maintaining egress routes. Additionally, HVAC and Electrical design support the freezer capacity while maintaining controlled temperature, and humidity even in the event of a prolonged power outage.

The lab hallway connects the administrative office area to all labs and the receiving area. Gowning garments and refrigerated storage for process reagents are stored in this space.

As a light sensitive process, the design required a solid wall constructed to block sunlight. In order to reduce solar heat load to the lab, the design of the facility incorporates 1) dark window tint to minimize heat gain and 2) an opening at the top of the space between the window and wall allowing warmed air to dissipate above the finished (and gasketed) ceiling.

During the design & construction phases of the project, a sample pass-through was selected based on size, mechanical interlock, and requirement to maintain differential pressures between the two labs. The location of the pass-through was dimensionally confirmed with the casework vendor to eliminate interference between the casework and pass-through. Additionally, all labs in the facility are constructed to account for capacity throughput increase. In this photo, the top shelf and additional electrical outlets allows this room to double its current capacity

The receiving area is adjacent to the receiving dock and serves as the de-facto main floor utilities room. A whole system laboratory HVAC humidifier (back right-center), the compressed gas tank mounts (back left) for the in-house nitrogen distribution piping, and the custom washdown area (back center) are some of the unique solutions implemented in this facility.

The breakroom has a couple of functions; in addition to providing a space for employees to prepare and eat food, it serves as a collaborative space and can function as a gathering place for large group presentations such as “state of the company” or “town hall” updates for employees.
